QUICK GUIDE

One session.
A clearer workflow.

Start with a short test recording in your chosen format and storage destination.

Choose your split rules

  1. Open the camera and select Video.
  2. Open the scissors / auto-split control, or Settings → Long Take.
  3. Choose a split interval, a file-size threshold, or both.
  4. Press record. LongTake saves successive numbered segments. If both rules are set, the first threshold reached starts the next segment.

A time rule is convenient for chapters of a lesson or interview. A size rule keeps files manageable for transfer and storage. File-size thresholds are approximate because encoded frames and finalization add data. Segment boundaries can have a brief transition; frame-perfect continuity is not guaranteed.

Set an optional stopping point

In Long Take settings, choose a maximum recording duration or total session size. These end the session; split rules only start another file. Leave a rule off if you do not want that limit.

Choose audio

Use the audio recording control to include sound or capture video without an audio track. Microphone permission is needed only when you record with sound.

Pick your storage destination

Use the local app library, or open Settings → Storage and select a writable folder on compatible external storage. Keep the drive connected throughout the recording. Available capacity, filesystem limits, cable speed and power can affect recording.

Choose Free or Pro

Free includes 720p video with auto-split and the controls described above. Pro unlocks 1080p and 4K on supported cameras, plus dark screen. Open Settings → LongTake Pro to see Apple’s local price or restore a previous purchase.

Use dark screen with Pro

Choose an automatic delay in Long Take settings, or activate dark screen during a recording. The recording indicator and duration remain visible. Tap to reveal the preview. Keep LongTake in the foreground: this mode does not record with the device locked or after leaving the app.

Use iPad or iPhone Duo

The camera layout adapts to the available screen space. On iPhone Duo, open, partially fold or close the device to use the available display. Avoid covering the active camera, and check your framing after changing posture.

Review and export

Open the library to review your saved captures. Export selected files to Photos or share them to your preferred destination. Keep enough free space for file finalization and future sessions.
